A Note from Principal Coleman:

December 7, 2023

Dear Heritage Academy Heroes & Families,

For the month of December, we are studying our new “Hero of the Month”, Phillis Wheatley.   She was considered to be the first African-American author to publish a book of poetry.   Wheatley lived during the time of slavery but that did not hold her back.  She was a slave until she was emancipated shortly after her poetry works were published.  The character pillar associated so appropriately with Phillis Wheatley is to “Be Wise”.  We will find out more about the life of Phillis Wheatley in Citizenship class and at our weekly Flag Ceremony.
